Terratec Noxon iRadio “Track not found”

Since a few days, most of the internet radios won’t play anymore on my Terratec Noxon iRadio. It looks like the Terratec servers are down. There are some other problems with other streams (for instance the french radio France Inter), which play fine on a computer. After a session of troubleshooting and network capturing, I found out a workaround that works well for me :

  • Go the web page of the radio you want to listen to
  • Download the PLS or M3U file of the radio. There are typically reachable by choosing an alternate player to the web player, like WinAmp, iTunes or VLC
  • Open this file with a text editor
  • Copy the URL of the MP3 stream
  • Open the web interface of your iRadio
  • Go to favorites
  • Enter a name, and the URL of the MP3 stream
  • Add the favorite
  • Play it

The favorites page is really really slow on my device. Pages take 30 seconds or more to refresh. I don’t know why, the workaround is to be patient 😉

Thanks for the tip. Here perhaps a further help:
The ability to search for radio stations according to location and genre was a big help in ‘internet dx-ing’.
According to the iRadio Manual “The list of radio stations stored in the RSDB (Radio Service Database) of your iRadio is provided and maintained by an exclusive vTuner premium service as mentioned in the previous chapter.”
You can still use the free vTuner service to search for radio stations and get at least vtuner URL
(e.g. http://www.vtuner.com/vtunerweb/mms/m3u49165.m3u for France – ABC Classique) and save that to your favorites. (Getting the direct URL is not always so easy).
Another tip – although a change to favorites via the web interface takes a long time to say ‘OK’, the change takes place well before the confirmation. You may be able to do several changes without waiting for confirmation

Thanks for the hints! I have also noticed that the changes in the favorites take effect much sooner than the feedback in the browser. The UI was already crap on this device before the mentioned problems, now it’s even worse, but I still like my iRadio 🙂

I do too. Do you have any idea how one could root the thing? I suspect that the long response occurs after a timeout waiting for some Internet confirmation (I think favorites were previously stored on the my-noxon site).

No, I don’t know how to root it, but against the timeout, you could also try to fake the resolution of the server name, or change the route, so that the requests fail immediately.

I just adquired a Terratec noxon iradio, but it came without remote. Is there any way I could reprogram a remote with those keymap files that I have seen for other remotes online? Could you get the keymap of your remote for me? It would be of great great help, thanks in advance.
